Target Audience:Codes and Convections of a pop magazine

I have been set a task to create a music magazine of a genre of my choice. I have decided to chose pop because I feel this best suits my personality and what I find most interesting. Therefore I will be able to use the information I know about it in my work. The target audience for my audience will be teenagers as they will be most interested in the pop industry. Pop music is mostly by young people because this is why the target audience are this age range. They look up to them and want to be like them like their role models.

The two most popular pop magazines which are in store at the moment in the UK are ‘smash hits’ and ‘Top of the pops’, this are mostly aimed at girls as they use very famine colours which attracts the target audience. They will usually put a big image of a young boy which is very popular such as ‘Justin Bieber’ giving more reasons for them to by the magazine as they want to read more about them. ‘Smash hits’ is a very poplar magazine but is aimed at the older teenagers with different types of celebrities such as Jason Mraz he is a celebrity which older teenagers and young adults would listen to. Other than Olly Murs and One direction which are the teenage heart breaks would have a target audience of younger teenagers which would be found in magazines such as ‘Top of the Pops’.

Pop magazines are not doing very well anymore as people has have access to the internet really easily. Meaning that they can research the latest music without having to go out and by the latest pop magazine. They can see the new hits, information about what’s going off and also see the latest images. Over the years there have been many pop magazines but because things have developed such as the internet they have gone out of business and the two main ones which are left are ‘smash hits’ and ‘top of the pops’ but they are not as popular as they used to be.
